About this ebook

When Romulus killed Remus, the wolf clans swore enmity to one another ever after.

Seventeen-year-old Jess has survived an upbringing in care. Diagnosed with rage blackouts, people look at her with pity and fear. The solution? Brutal workouts, Art – oh – and staying the hell away from others. Easily done in backwater Maine. Yet one night, she wakes to find herself by a lake, her clothes covered in blood, with no memory of what happened. Soon the water is aflame and a portal opens. Transported to the Triodia Penitentiary, she discovers she’s a shifter, a type of para. She’s also accused of murder and locked up.

Desperate to find a way out, she turns to her fellow inmates for help. Yet as they mount an escape, the enemies circling her increase. Will Jess survive unlocking the dangerous Heights and Depths of the para world and those within herself?

Luna is the first in a four-book series, The Dark Between. A decadently dark YA Fantasy full of Heights and Depths that will leave you craving more. Perfect for fans of Laini Taylor and Sarah J. Maas.

Although the concept of the story is good i found the book long winded with a lot of repetition, so i skipped pages. When something actually happened it was interesting. Where the title comes from is also a question, i thought this may be the heroines name, however no Luna is ever mentioned.

"Luna" follows the story of Jess Bradley as she discovers the world of paranormals. A world that she is a part of, but had no idea existed. A world that she discovers as her own world implodes. A few weeks shy of her eighteenth birthday, she is dragged to Triodia Penitentiary, accused of murder, and thrown in a cell to await her trial. The decisions, and friends, that Jess makes throughout the book lead her from situations which are bad, to ones that are worse, in a believable manner reminiscent of a 17-year-olds, sometimes annoying, habit of thinking that they know what's best. Rae Else cleverly weaves the world of the Para's around the reader, showing us through Jess' own discoveries what's important here and what's crucial, and the whole time you're becoming more and more invested in Jess' success. There are also several chapters from a secondary character's viewpoint that were fascinating, and got us a glimpse outside of Jess' limited view from the walls of Triodia Penitentiary. I really enjoyed Matteo's chapters, and hope we see much more of this character in subsequent books. Overall this was a really fun read. Fresh, engaging, and it sucked me in fast. I only intended to read the first chapter this afternoon, and ended up devouring the whole book over several hours. I'll absolutely be purchasing the rest of the series.
