She must effectively negotiate strict societal rules to protect her family's heritage while restricted by her gender. The story is well balanced, logical and intricate. The characters are vibrant and I could hardly wait to see how each situation would turn out. --- This is the first of a trilogy which takes place on the other side of the Rift (a portal between worlds) in Feist's Magician: Apprentice/Master. Events and persons on both worlds are key to the well being of their shared universe.

Raymond E. Feist is the New York Times bestselling author of seven previous novels: Magician: Apprentice, Magician: Master, Siverthorn, A Darkness at Sethanon, Prince of the Blood, The King's Buccaneer and Faerie Tale. He has collaborated on three novels with Janny Wurts, Daughter of the Empire, Servant of the Empire and Mistress of the Empire. He lives with his wife in San Diego, California.

Janny Wurts is the author of the Cycle and Fire trilogy (Stormwarden, Keeper of the Keys, and Shadowfane), Sorcerer's Legacy, and three collaborations with Mr. Feist: Daughter of the Empire, Servant of the Empire, and Mistress of the Empire. She is also a cover illustrator. She lives in Florida with her husband.
