Biographical sketch of Elijah Woodward Stoddard (1820-1913), who was a direct descendant in the eighth generation of English immigrant Anthony Stoddard. Anthony and his family emigrated in 1639 from London to Boston, Massachusetts. Elijah was a son of John Stoddard and Merab Parker, and was educated at Amherst and at Union Theolo- gical Seminary in New York City. He married Eliza West Concklin in 1852 and, after her death, married widow Eliza (Platt) Stoddard, widow of John F. Stoddard. Elijah served as a Presbyterian minister in Illinois, Pennsylvania and Tennessee before returning to New York City, and then to the Morris and Orange Presbytery, with headquarters at Succasuna, New Jersey.
