Bernard Ashley's last novel for Orchard. Little Soldier, was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal and the Guardian Children's Fiction Award. His other titles for the Orchard Black Apple list include the City Limits series, a hard-edged series set in an inner city, and the highly acclaimed Tiger without Teeth. A former primary head teacher, Bernard now writes full time. He lives in London.
