About the author

Richard C. Williams, Ph.D. socioeconomist, is founder and past president of Social and Economic Analysis Corporation. In this capacity he has conducted and supervised extensive research on the impacts of military spending on the local economic and social scene, including a study of alternate futures for the Rocky Flats Nuclear Weapons Plant. He spent many years as researcher in the fi eld of chronic pain, diet, and life style. He has taught at Adelphi University (Long Island Campus), New York Institute of Technology, and University of Colorado. He is currently serving on the affi liate faculty in the College of Professional Studies at Regis University, Denver, Colorado, where he teaches students both in the Master of Arts and the Master in Non-Profi t Management programs. He teaches a variety of courses, including Global Justice, Impacts of Free Trade Agreements, Peace and Justice, History of Social Theory, Corporate Responsibility, Research Methods, Advanced Statistics, and Advanced Math with application to the social sciences. Recently, he has traveled around the world visiting cooperatives and studying alternative economic models for the elimination of poverty and increased local participation in economic and social welfare. His many publications consist of articles in refereed professional journals and assorted chapters in books on topics in socio-economics of the defense industry and chronic pain. His most recent books are The Cooperative Movement: Globalization from Below, published by Ashgate Publishing, Ltd. (2007) in the UK, The Cooperative Solution: Toward a Just Economy, published by University Press of America (2011), and Eating Your Heart Out? : Diet, Lifestyle, and Cardiac Risk, published by Margarita Press, Boulder, Colorado (2011).
