Red Dawn took me 5 times longer to read than any of the Percy Jackson books -- because I can easily put it down and read it later. It just isn't riveting. My main problem with this series is the device of the "digital recording" -- two people that alternate in telling the story in "First Person." In the original Percy Jackson series, it is all First Person. Excellent story, but First Person can get old, and it is very hard to try and incorporate other "points of view". In the Heroes of Olympus series, we switch to "Third Person" storytelling, but the focus switches from chapter to chapter. One chapter focuses (in third person) on Jason, one on Piper, etc. It can seem 'bouncy' from time to time, but it works. The third person viewpoint can be easier reading, and though the focus shifts, it's not too hard to keep track of what is going on. In the Kane Chronicles, the story is in "First Person" and switches the main character from chapter to chapter. It gets hard to read. Yes, you do pick up more than one perspective, but I found myself CONSTANTLY looking at the chapter heading to see who is telling the story in the current chapter. Good story, but frustrating to read.

Ugh, I am not good at reviews, because I could be a spoiler. All I can say that it is a very good book. I love two exceptional characters in that book. I cannot wait to read the sequel to it, I hope, because it is the Kane Chronicles, so I am assuming that there will be more books to come for Kane family.

This book cant even be compared to the heroes of Olympus or the first series I would of like it better if percy, annebeth, nico di angelo, grover, piper, frank, leo, hazel, reyna, etc. I could of made lots of changes I give it a 3 out of 10.
