Emotions definitely run high while reading this incredible story. I love Brenda Novak's books because of her characters. The are usually slightly flawed, a bit troubled, and absolutely lovable. This story brings us Savanna and Gavin and they are some of her best characters yet. After a rough childhood Gavin has finally found his peaceful place in the world. He's enjoying his new home, making his music, and being with his adopted family. Then his new neighbor comes crashing into his life and things get crazy. Savanna thought she had the perfect life. A husband and two wonderful kids. Well the wonderful kids part is right, the husband not so wonderful. In fact he's deadly. Starting over is just what she needs to do. A new man in her life is the last thing she needs but might be the best thing to ever happen. Put this on the must read list. I highly recommend it.

I love spending time in Silver Springs. Brenda Novak has crafted a wonderful community and a unique family based on the New Horizons Boys school. Gavin is a beautiful soul, he is driven to take care of the people that he cares about which comes from his rather sad beginning in life. So sad that his stepmother left him at a park and his father chooses her over him. But he doesn’t let this stop how he views the world and treats people. When he suddenly has a new neighbor out in the country, he is shocked but also surprised to come meet Savanna and her two amazing children. He does the neighborly thing and lends a hand. Savanna has found herself in an incredibly challenging situation. Her husband is being charged as a rapist, something she never dreamed would happen. As she tries to continue life in their hometown, she finds it difficult as people make comments and attach her. Even her children are subjected to this at school. She boldly decides to leave and move to Silver Springs, to a house her parents bought and left to her and her brother when they died. As she takes on this new adventure, she really isn’t prepared for the condition of the house. Luckily, she has a helpful neighbor, Gavin, and he just provides a wonderful comfort while helping. Now Gavin has other challenges in his world, Heather, a woman that loves him, but he doesn’t feel the same. Both Savanna and Gavin have issues to deal with but at the same time, they find comfort with each other. I loved all the interactions with Gavin and Savanna’s children, each time he melted Savanna’s heart more as she saw a true fatherly connection for both children. Gavin and Savanna were just fun to read. I felt for Savanna’s issues with her soon to be ex-husband and loved how meeting Gavin showed her a new world and the reality of the ‘gray’ world she had existed in. Brenda does a fabulous job of balancing the romance with the harsh reality of life making a great story to escape into.

Savanna Gray's life is unraveling apart. Her husband has been arrested for attacking three women and is currently in jail. When Savanna starts to believe that her husband is actually guilty, she files for divorced and heads to Silver Springs, CA to live in the house her parents left her and her brother. She knows the house needs a lot of work, but Savanna feels she can handle in. As soon as Savanna arrives late at night with her two kids, she meets Gavin Turner, her next door neighbor, make that sexy next door neighbor. Spark fly immediately, but Savanna knows she needs to keep her distance with everything going on in her personal life. Funny how good intentions don't seem to work out. Gavin finds himself coming to Savanna's aid any chance he can and the more time they spend together, the stronger their feelings are. For once in his life, Gavin has found someone who really interests him. Just when Gavin's life looks like it can't get any better, his past shows up to haunt him. It takes a great leap of faith from both Savanna and Gavin to get to their happy ending, all while trying to deal with a few things from their past. There is a little bit of suspense added to this story and I can admit that it kept me on the edge of my seat with my heart beating a mile a minute! Overall, I LOVED this book. Gavin was such the perfect guy for someone like Savanna, even with all that had happened in his past. Savanna was such a strong heroine, especially with what was going on in her life. Together these two just made each other better. Read this book...you will not be sorry!
