Han var oprindeligt uddannet folkeskolelærer og udgav over 150 børnebøger. Han debuterede som forfatter i 1980 med billedbogen "Skrubben Sigurd" og modtog i 1992 Danmarks Skolebibliotekers forfatterpris sammen med Hans Chr. Hansen.
