About this ebook

A maiden attempt to bring what has been to author’s until now ‘nonsense writing.’ Life throws up many meaningful, unmeaningful, significant and hilarious situations at times. The book is entitled ‘For Want of a Pocket’ as it is from a sari-wearing lady’s point of view. It is a collection of four short stories.
The first story ‘FESEM’ reflects the grinding procedure in purchasing sophisticated equipment that is expected to be beneficial to many and in more ways than one. The next, entitled ‘Love’ is about two successful professionals and their interaction after 35 years in completely different environments. Will the lady be able to save what she wants to save? Will the man get what he desired lifelong? The third, entitled ‘Tit-for-Tat,’ deals with the games some play to avoid direct confrontation, resulting in expected and unexpected consequences. The last story with the book’s title ‘For Want of a Pocket’ is a lady’s irritation at not having a pocket in her sari when her purses’ contents play hide and seek on a busy evening. Is not having a pocket the cause of all her trouble or does it lie somewhere else?

About the author

This is Rupa Dasgupta’s first attempt to write fiction. Her career has involved her with scientific research, so fiction from her could come as a surprise. But Rupa has been making up stories in her mind since her childhood days, so much so that she would get unmindful in class and miss what the teachers were teaching! She loved, and still loves, doing that: cocking up stories in her mind. Her friends called her a day-dreamer. Much later in life, she started penning down her thoughts in the form of memoirs and then stories based on whatever she saw around although some were completely imaginative. She was surprised to see that she could do so much of ‘nonsense writing.’ She is an avid traveller. But due to the existing global pandemic, she is confined to her home, and taking the opportunity of this time, she plunged to take some of her stories to readers.
