The previous album by Shantabai; 'Gondan' had many qualities. This album is a modified version of all those qualities, more prospered, more cherished. Through this album, for the first time, we meet the nature and the familiar surroundings in a different situation. It is for the first time the poetess feels some kind of indifference, some sense of unfamiliarity with her surroundings. Many a poems in this album reveal the poetess's indifference prominently. These poems represent her mind which is feeling lonely, which is finding the world around her going far away from her, which is showing the agitated and gloomy state of her mind, which is making her realize that the calmness of her life is shading away.
’अनोळख’ या शांताबाईंच्या कवितासंग्रहात आधीच्या ’गोंदण’मध्ये प्रकट झालेल्या अनेक वैशिष्ट्यांचा अधिक सुजाण असा विकास आहे, असे आढळून येते. ’अनोळख’मधल्या कवितांत प्रथमच प्रकट होत असलेली एक भाववृत्ती म्हणजे निसर्ग, भोवतालचे परिचित जग यांच्याविषयी कवयित्रीला जाणवू लागलेली अनोळखीची, परकेपणाची, दुराव्याची भावना होय. ’अनोळख’मधल्या अनेक कविता या अशा दुराव्याचे दर्शन ठसठशीतपणे घडवतात. ’त्वचेच्या आडपडद्याने’, ’बहर’, ’पडदानशीन’, ’कोसळतात परके समुद्र’, इत्यादी कवितांतून ही भावना व्यक्त होते. पूर्वीचे स्थिर जीवन पायांखालून निसटू लागले आहे, या जाणिवेमुळे मनाला आलेले भांबावलेपण आणि स्वत:च्या एकाकीपणातून गडद होत चाललेली व्याकूळता यांचा उत्कट, मन उदास करणारा प्रत्यय म्हणजे ’अनोळख’मधल्या अनेक कविता.
