About the author

Born in Maqbulgunj, Lucknow on 2.1.1909, Mr. Samarendranath Lahiri joined British Military Engineering Service and spent a considerable time in North West Frontier Province. A multi linguist, adventurer and a courageous man, he was, very keen to know the freedom loving people of the land of Pukhtoon. This is the account of not only his experience but reflection of his insight and observation about the land and its people. A part of it was first published in The Statesman in early fifties. Mr. Lahiri died on 2.12.1985.
