Although this book had a good overall message that you must overcome obstacles and become successful in life, I could not relate to any characters or anything else in this book. The overall feeling in this book was pure luck and chance. All three characters had some sort of hardship or challenges in their teenage years, and they wanted to better themselves. Although the characters were indeed looking for a bright future, they were constantly making bad choices. This book was all over the place as well. When a character was explaining something in a chapter they would jump around to different events, and get off topic. I understand that these doctors are not professional writers, but there are editors available to help the structure of the book. This book could have been better at organizing and presenting events, thoughts, and feelings. I do agree that this book may benefit some adolescents in reading, but I do not think that everyone will get the same message from it. If my school teacher did not require me to read this book, I definitely would not have read it. I would only recommend this book to someone who is going through some of the same circumstances as one of the character is facing. This book could definitely inspire someone who is in the wrong crowd or making wrong decisions.

This would be so nice if u can read even if offline just like with kindle. at the place I work I can barely get a signal. And btw i haven't finished the book yet but id like a refund. If there's any way u can transfer this on kindle ill greatly appreciate it

I believe that this is a good book and I recommend you to read it. It's very inspirational and the authors really make you see how difficult it was for them growing up in Newark. These three men were all inspired by different people in their life to make their future better. One of them was Carla Dickson, she was their counselor at Seton Hall and also became close to them throughout their college years. But I'm getting ahead of myself, first for them to keep each other focused on their path to success they made the pact after high school. George was the one who made the pact and persuaded his friends to go to college because he saw the opportunity to become a dentist, which he'd had a dreamed of since he was a kid. Unfortunately, I do have some cons about the book. One thing that had throned me off while reading the book was that they kept going back and forth with their childhood and teenage years through out the chapters. The plot of their story is pretty informative but they really didn't talk much about their emotions as much as I thought they would of. Other than that they did manage to talk about how similar they were to one another, and how much it impacted them to make this pact. I liked the message that this book gave and I hope other readers like it as well.

About the author

George Jenkins, Sampson Davis, and Rameck Hunt grew up together in Newark and graduated from Seton Hall University. Davis and Hunt received their medical degrees from the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and Jenkins received his dentistry degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry. The three doctors are the recipients of the Essence Lifetime Achievement Award. All three continue to live in Newark.
