Dark, disturbing and utterly consuming. If there’s one author who I can guarantee will get my heart pounding at what I’m reading it would have to be Pepper Winters. She’s in a class all of her own in dark erotica and this series is getting ever darker with each instalment if that’s even possible. She transforms the written word into absolute physical horror got me and it’s so freaking compelling, it’s not true. As always with these Debt Inheritance books, the story ambles along at a fairly steady pace until it’s time for Nila to start paying those debts back to the Hawks, a family so deeply steeped in tradition and persecution. I really did fear for Nila after the first debt as they are promised to get worse each time and boy was I right. Nothing could have prepared me for the sheer horror of the Second Debt. I had an incredible physical reaction to it – I was reading late at night and should have been putting my Kindle down to sleep but no way in hell was I able to tear my eyes away from the page. All the fine hairs on my arms stood on end, my heart started to pound, my pupils dilated – very few authors can get such a response from me but I take my hat off to Pepper Winters
