The final book in the series is fascinating, yet frustrating. Dalglish writes a fast-paced book with plenty of plot twists. Overall, the series world-building reflects a gifted imagination. Yet at times, the writing resembles a transcribed video game. It's repetitive and keeps upping the ante without the character development of the first book. The same physical descriptions of the effects of the elements on the user's body are used, but just adding on new discoveries at each level. Dalglish is a young enough writer that he could transcend these limitations (cf. Naomi Novik), perhaps through a writer's workshop or two. I hope he works on his craft. His imagination certainly demonstrates incredible potential. The series is certainly worth buying and reading.
