Doreen Fiol was born in London in 1931 to poor, working-class parents. At eight years old, she was evacuated, spending most of the war years in Dorset and Northamptonshire but went back to London for a while just in time to experience the Blitz. In 1945, she returned home to her family, and after completing her schooling, became a nurse. She now lives in Cornwall with her husband, Joseph, and two dogs, close to their large family. She has written many plays for children and has had two children’s books and a collection of short stories published along with articles and adult stories in magazines and anthologies.
