Somewhat tired of the traditional European, middle ages settings for fantasy, Cleave has a penchant for setting his fantasy in Steppe climates and indeterminable times in history. He might have elves traipsing across deserts or dwarves tunneling through Carlsbad, New Mexico type caverns beneath great plains.
Fantasy, in my mind, pretty much covers anything you can imagine, and I can imagine a lot! I try not to take my fantasy too far from the traditional, but why not let technology progress instead of staying in the medieval era?
