When Connor McCloud suspects the world craziest villain to lurk in the shadows and can’t rely on the police for help, he decides to take matters into his own hands. He appoints himself as Erin personal bodyguard and goes all in with his non-realistic theories/fears trying to keep her safe. Going forward, he would have to deal with all the challenges coming his way and especially with self-doubt… Could his mind be tricking him? When all evidence point to the contrary of his suspicions, can his sanity stay intact? Standing in the Shadows is imbibed with sweet moments, memorable laughs, thrilling suspense and daunting situations. This read definitely felt like a fast-tracked exhilarating action-packed movie. The characters, twists, chemistry, events, interferences are weaved together to take hold of your mind and keep you focused. Before you know it, your eyes are stripped away the power to blink and you’ll keep asking for more even after the last page is turned. And guess what? There are more!! In this book, the McClouds brothers are introduced and each of them has a separate story to enjoy. Hero complex or not, real life should make more room for people like Connor. Thank you, Shannon McKenna, for an out-of-this-world series. P.S: The re-publishing of this series is only an excuse to read it again... not that I need any ;). What a thrilling, seductive romance! Connor has been in love with Erin since she was a teen. But because she was young, and his FBI colleagues daughter, he kept his distance. Now Erin's father is in prison, and Connor is recovering from from his near fatal injuries from that fateful night. He fears that Erin may be in danger from the man that her father crossed. I loved this exciting, and sizzling romance that had my heart racing from beginning to end!
