About the author

An Austrian neurologist and the founder of psychoanalysis, Freud's theories of the unconscious mind and mechanisms of repression were groundbreaking. His analysis of dreams as wish-fulfillments, and his theory of the Oedipus complex, among others, had a lasting impact on psychology and culture.
