Anfänge haben ihren eigenen Zauber. Der Beginn russischer Auseinandersetzung mit der Philosophie Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph Schellings verdankt sich einem Unbekannten. Unter den Würzburger Schülern, die in den Jahren 1803 bis 1806 Schellings Vorlesungen zur Natur- und Identitätsphilosophie besuchen, findet sich unverhofft der russische Mediziner D. M. Vellanskij. Seine Vorgeschichte bleibt im Dunkel, seine Nachwirkung aber ist groß. Den schellingschen Grundgedanken einer Konformation von Mensch und der ihm zugeordneten gott- und seelendurchwirkten Welt nimmt Vellanskij mit nach Rußland. Der Rekonstruktion dieses singulären interkulturellen Verständniszusammenhangs ist der vorliegende Band gewidmet.
