Friends from birth, Cossak and Nova must lead their people across hot, arid lands, surviving a kingdom that would seek to strip them of everything to get what it needs, no matter the price.
Cossak will become chief. In doing so, he must find the strength to lead his tribe through their destruction, knowing he will die. The burden of leadership, he will discover, is not about being chief.
Nova is unique. He can see auras — the very essence of people — and divine their intent. But why him? In his search for an answer, he will find love, lose his mind and pay the price for exploring the power of gods.
A spellbinding series starter about brotherhood, connection, loss, and the will to continue moving forward despite the cost.
Trigger Warning: A handful of short scenes involving torture.
Writer, conversationalist, and author (not always in that order).
With three decades of dreaming while on the job, Simon has amassed a multitude of science fiction and fantasy stories. Working in a hospital laundry (for example), mindful to avoid flinging the blood of dead people while sorting through their used bed sheets, offered ample opportunity for inspiration. Some of those mental wanderings even turned into completed stories.
Sitting at a computer, writing his next novel or, sometimes, actually working for a living, is usually where you will find him. Occasionally, bravely, Simon will venture outside with his wife, two kids and a dog, for a play on their lifestyle property. Resolutely ignoring the lengthening grass.
