About this ebook

It’s taken some time, but Detective Kate Morgan’s various relationships are gelling at work—and even at home. Until Simon starts screaming in the middle of the night. Worried and not sure she’s up for this, Kate distances herself from him. When a tortured female body shows up, Simon’s visions are of no help, until he describes one specific injury, … the same injury on Kate’s latest case.

A case getting weirder as more is uncovered. A similar tortured death happened more than a decade ago, where the killer was caught and served time. As a suspect he looks good for this current case because he’s now out and back in society. Except he has a solid alibi …

This isn’t the only victim though, and, as the Vancouver PD Homicide Unit digs deeper, Kate’s team finds several more cases—all with connections to the same suspect. But Kate’s still not convinced.

Too much more is going on, and she’s determined to get to the bottom of this, before someone else dies a painful death …

This is the fourth standalone book in Dale Mayer's "Kate Morgan Novels" series and equally as good as the others. Simon woke up screaming in the night, is this another disturbing vision ? Kate Morgan is a detective in the Vancouver PD Homicide Unit, she is a bit of a loner and faced a lot of animosity when she first joined the unit, she didn't fit in but gradually her colleagues have come to respect her, she gets results and they are willing to learn from Kate and Kate is also learning to share her thoughts with the team. Simon St. Laurant is a wealthy property developer, he also is a very unwilling psychic, his visions have helped Kate in the past and although she is still very sceptical she has to admit that Simon's visions have produced results. Kate and Simon have entered into a sometimes uneasy relationship, he wants more but does Kate have more to give, her work is her life, is she just using Simon or is it something deeper ? When a particularly horrific corpse of a young girl is uncovered Simon's vision leads him to believe that another girl is being held and is suffering the same hideous torture, time was running out to find her but it wasn't that simple, the MO is exactly the same as a murder committed ten tears previously and the convicted murderer is now free and still proclaiming his innocence. When it emerges that more bodies with the same MO have been found in different areas the data, and MO point to the convicted man, could he have committed these murders when he was behind bars / will Simon's visions lead them to the killer ? This story is full of twists and turns and keeps you guessing until the end, I can't wait for the next book in the series. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I enjoyed this book and thought it was another solid entry for this suspensive series. This well written read had me on the edge of my seat as the gripping and twisting story unfolded. I like Kate and Simon as single characters and am intrigued by the promising relationship brewing between. I have to say though that I found myself kind of annoyed with Kate in this go-round. She's beginning to skirt a line that in my opinion doesn't put her in a flattering light and if that doesn't change, I'm not sure how I'm going to feel going forward. This is my frank, freely posted review.

A little darker than some of the others as far as details, but great world building and it really makes you fully invested in the story. As with the rest of the series love the dynamic between the 2 main characters - the juxtaposition with the paranormal and non belief but building romantic relationship inspite of the contradiction... and how they still work together to solve the crimes. Love it. All of it.
