I can't pass up a single dad romance. Also that cover drew me in because I just love books with animals in them. The beginning of this one just broke my heart and Brooke's back story had me tearing up. The thing that I loved about this book the most is the feeling of hope through out the book. There is a bunch of characters that are dealing with some tough decisions and there is always the sense of hope for all. Those Sawyer boys will win anyone over with their helping genes. Really most everyone lends a helping hand. I love the sense of community and coming together. Dan's precious son is too adorable and I just loved the scenes with him and his friends. This book packed the feels and it's one you can easily get lost in. I'm looking forward to more from this series. This is the first book in the series I've read, but I'm going to go back to read the previous books especially Sophie's story.

I discovered this author by chance and decided to give this book a try. The story centers around Brooke Ellis and single dad, Dan Sawyer. Brooke has just lost her home in the California fires, and needs a shelter not only for herself, but also for her four legged family. A generous man offers a cottage next to the home he shares with his son and grandson. A boy that has type 1 diabetes and a mother that has been absent most of his life. A “mother” more interested in a life of travel and adventure and show up unexpectedly. While Brooke keeps to herself and has suffered great losses in her life, Dan is very protective of his son. It took me a while to get into the story, mostly because a great deal of the story was mostly internal dialogue expressed by both characters. Not the usual style of the books I read, but still very well written. That said, it was a very good story. A story that at times was heartbreaking. A story about family dynamic and interactions or lack thereof. A story about taking chances and living a life without regrets. As well as a story about second chances in life and love. While some might disagree and say this was a stand alone, and one didn’t need to have read the previous books, I disagree. I felt I missed something by not understanding all the relationships of the multiple secondary characters in the story as well as trying to keep track of all of them. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
