About this eBook

Air Command pilot Nova Whiteside is assigned to a remote outpost to guard the construction of a tethered orbiter, Skyranch Twelve, against rebel sabotage. The difference between the well-ordered Union air fields and this dusty garrison is made painfully clear when she runs afoul a brutal commander of ground troops.

While trapped behind enemy lines during a bloody uprising she meets Djari, a human civilian whose trust in the governing Union is shattered by what he has witnessed.

Indeed, not everything out here seems to run according to protocol and Nova soon suspects that more than farming is being done aboard the Skyranch. When she uncovers the treacherous and illicit schemes taking place, it seems that local riots are the least of their troubles.

This is the first of the Targon Tales series, which can be read in any order.

Couldn't get past the first incident. The use of sexual violence to drum up drama is just poor writing. There was plenty to work with from the start. This just felt like only thing author could think about was, male soldier bad. So of course they are going assault their fellow female soldiers. Sad since I would have liked to learn more about the world they made.

A relatable heroine in a classic space opera, with events challenging her own, as well as exploring opposing, points of view. Themes dealing with loyalty, duty, morality & trust, set amidst drug smuggling, rebellion & military politics, with villains found on both sides of the conflict. Nova is a young pilot who questions her own place in the giant military machine. In expansion of a technologically advanced galactic empire spanning multiple species & star systems, the themes are universal & familiar.

For anyone who enjoys Sci-fi! This is a well-written sci-fi novel. Nova Whiteside grew up on military bases and has set her sights on becoming a Hunter Class pilot. Although the rape scene was distressing it is also a military truth and and so was the aftermath. I thought the author handled it well. There are plots within plots, subterfuge and sky battles; a touch of romance, treachery and loyalty. I look forward to the next book in the series.

About the author

Living in Canada, it is inevitable that those who lack enthusiasm for snow-related activities tend to stay indoors for a good portion of the year.
Thank goodness for computers. And sci-fi. And eBooks!

I've always loved fantasy worlds and writing about what might be possible, given a certain suspension of disbelief and a rude assault upon the laws of physics.
Since I've always suspected that there is far too much gravity on this planet, I tend to take my people to other worlds.
