WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A HERO?

As the chosen of the gods and defender of all humanity, everyone expects me to do great things. From the tender age of six, it’s been my duty to serve humankind, and during my first trial by fire in Keren County... I failed miserably. Since then, I’ve devoted my every waking moment to becoming someone worthy of my position. Though I’m still too weak to accomplish much on my own, as long as I’m with my friends, I’m sure there’s something we can do to help people. Hmm? Where’s the spider? What are you talking about...?

Just a heads-up that this entire novel is a recap of 90% what we already know of events, through Julius the hero's perspective. Who, if you've read this far know, has been dead since many light novels ago and served the purpose of being a cookie cutter hero and dying. If you have some thing for reading about a character you know already died and his experience in events you already know occurred, mixed in with the tiniest amount of new information and small diary excerpts from Sophia, have at'er I'm sure some might appreciate it, but I couldn't bring myself to read it.

The last book made me very excited to continue the story, but then I saw that the description of this book sounded like filler. Now that I've read it, I'll just say that if you don't care about Julius, just skip this one. Julius doesn't even get any interesting interactions with any of the main cast, so it's largely about introducing the rest of his party and the people he met in his life...which means nothing since he got TPK'd by White a few books back and half his party never gets any real screentime in the main series. I was hoping the Sophia side chapters would at least offer some insights on the actions of the main characters, but her chapters are literally only like a page long and are vague to the point of uselessness. Only like three things of even slight import happened in this volume. Sophia's perspective on how school is going (which, as mentioned, is vague), learning about one of the unique reincarnation skills which might play a minor part in the elf conflict (but nothing so complex that it couldn't be explained away in two sentences in the main series), and learning how Ariel views the hero in regards to her policies (which means little since he's dead for half the main series)

Total waste of time. Really get the feeling the creator was kind of messing with us. extremely dissatisfied and disappointed. if I weren't so heavily invested in this series, having read all the manga, watch the anime, etc, I would drop it. I hope this backfired greatly on them. if you get bored feel free to skip it.
