Autoren-Profil

Ross Cherednik was born in Portland Oregon in 1942. He spent his childhood in Washington state and graduated from the University of Washington in 1965 with a master's in Science/Mathematics. After moving to the island of Maui he took up farming, when he wasn't teaching math at the community college. His musical talents began in his youth with violin. He moved to viola, later included mandolin and of course ukulele. In the early 80's, while living on the Big Island of Hawaii, he noticed a lack of instructional materials for intermediate ukulele playing. He had connected with Ken Eidson, another Mel Bay author, and together they created two ukulele and one mandolin instruction books. As a player, Ross was an ultimate support musician. He felt that role helped the lead give them more freedom to perform at their best. Following brain damage music helped to nurture and inspire Ross into a new self. He wrote many songs and was still writing and playing his favorite instruments before his death in early 2022.
