Acerca de este libro electrónico

A new and talented storyteller, John Morrison, weaves a wonderful story into a feel-good novel with an old-fashioned beginning, middle and end. The setting is Independence, Missouri, in 1977, when disco was king and Jimmy Carter moved in to the White House. During the next several decades, the story flows through the vehicle of the Star truck and Johns life experiences with the constant vein of the paper route. The effects of changing technology and social mores are shown in an interesting and sometimes poignant way. Recollect your own experiences of the first Stock Market crash, V-J Day, the Kennedy assassination, Viet-Nam, Kansas City flood of 1977, and even the 1985 Cardinals-Royals World Series as they impact Independence. The stories are infused with the good humor that is Morrisons own personality. Rekindle those feelings of puppy love, first love, true love, rebound love, and grow old together love. You will laugh and cry as you experience life and love in the last one hundred years through his eyes. In his Star Truck, John Morrison not only takes us down memory lane, but gives the reader a refreshing look at the person we all know as the paper boy. If you have ever worked delivering newspapers or know someone who has, you will identify with this account. A truly heartwarming tale that follows the lives of the small town, middle class family, and those who are dear to them, through the changes and "progress" of the 20th Century.

Acerca del autor

Although John Morrison was born in nearby Windsor, Missouri, his parents brought him to the Kansas City area shortly after his first birthday. He is proud to call Independence home. John delivered his first newspaper on June 1, 1954. He began helping his father on the paper truck when he was only six years old and he continued to work for his dad all of the way through school. Taking Harry Truman’s personal advice regarding education, he graduated from Harry’s alma mater, William Chrisman High School, in 1965. His college experience was interrupted by a stint in the Navy where he served as a Viet-Namese linguist. After his return to civilian life, he was pulled back into the newspaper business for another forty years. Working over 53 years, seven days a week on the paper route, his life was sometimes out of the ordinary, sometimes tedious, but never uneventful. In this, his first novel, he gives us a brief, personal look at the highlights of those 50 years. He delivered his last newspaper on June 30, 2007. John is happily married to the love of his life, Sheryl. Together for nearly thirty years, they have raised two wonderful children, Adam and Katie.
