About this ebook

A few hours before handing out presents on Christmas Eve, life in the centre of the city is bustling faster than ever. While polite society withdraws into their houses and dwellings, a homeless man sits alone, freezing in his shabbily constructed cardboard house, which offers him only scant protection from the cold, wind, and driving snow. Suddenly,he hears crunching footsteps in the snow, and fearfully beholds a stranger. The years on the street have taught him that footsteps in the dark of night seldom bring anything good. To his great surprise, the stranger invites him to join him for a bite at a nearby kiosk. The homeless man is inwardly torn: his hunger and longing for company are great. No less great, however, is his concern for his life. After a hard struggle, he finally gives in and follows the imposing stranger. A mistake?
