Sting has a decent amount of mystery and suspense. You aren't quite sure who's doing what and who's the good/bad guys through most of it. Also, it feels as if someone could die at any given moment. There's also some sexual tension and just regular strain between most of cast over who is going to be the one in charge. Romantic Suspense is an awesome genre for me. I liked this book and will check out more from this author.

Probably closer to 2.5/5--It was fine. Decent for a little easy reading before bed or during downtime at work. I normally don't do well with books that change POVs often, but Brown made it work for me. The varying perspectives did a lot to add tension and mystery to the story, and I really enjoyed the scenes that focused on Hickam and Wiley. The intrigue wasn't especially sophisticated or complex, but it was good for a light yet still engaging summer read. Romantic suspense isn't my usual genre, so I might just be the wrong audience for this type of story, but my least favorite aspect was the insta-love (insta-lust?) between Shaw and Jordie. The often dubious consent of some of their steamier interactions was a real mood killer to me, as was the power imbalance (physical and otherwise) between them. I'm not a fan of straight romances that really play up the animalistic, primal bad boy tropes, and Shaw fit that to a tee. Overall, I didn't feel like there wasn't really a lot of emotional depth in Shaw's or Jordie's characters, which also left their attraction pretty shallow, and subsequently left the tension pretty underwhelming.

I always forget her books are basically romance novels. The beginning is good, looses momentum in the middle and ends predictably. Not worth the the initial money. Wait for the sale.
