I read this book because I liked the idea of a system working without a computer, as they are rarely trustworthy. However, I was disappointed. Some methods which are absolutely insecure are described for historical curiosity. That's not bad per se but then there is the so-called "super cipher" which (as I understood) just means combining several (insecure) ciphers. The ONLY secure cipher working without computer I know, the One-Time-Pad, is described very briefly and it's use is discouraged.
