In Corpus Cristi, TX, Dani is there for a combined trip: her sister's wedding and a ribbon cutting ceremony for a park. The latter is for her Washington, DC job with Senator Dillon. By chance, she meets Patrick, who is there with his father for the same ribbon cutting ceremony. It is more personal on their part. They are there to dedicate it to Patrick's mother who died in a rather mysterious plane crash years ago. Dani's father also died in a plane crash, and her brother and sister are convinced there is more to it than a simple crash. The believe the teachings of their Grandmother, Mamich, who taught them that lightening has mystical powers. They believe that lightening had something to do with their father's crash, while Dani is not so sure. Ultimately, Patrick hunts down Dani in Washington, DC and begs her help, and she reluctantly agrees. They get caught up together in a plot to put the pieces of a puzzle together which involves both their parents. Barbara Freethy has done a wonderful job of developing Patrick and Dani into real people who you come to feel for and "root" for! She masterfully brings them together through suspense, danger and romance to a satisfying ending. Though part of a trilogy, Summer Rain can easily stand on it's own, though I wouldn't miss the other two!

Book 3 in LIGHTNING STRIKES Series by Barbara Freethy. Can be read alone, it's a great series, and one would love all three. In this we meet Danielle, or Dani, has new job in DC, a step toward her political goal. She's now working for senator Dillion. At home for her sister's, Alicia's wedding, and as a favor for her boss. She goes to a dedication of a park, honoring a congresswoman. Meeting the son Patrick Kane who also has question of a plane crash 8 years that took his moms life. While Dani , is to have the puzzle piece of her fathers death, 10 years ago. Her dad wasn't in politics, but did charter air trip. His plane went down in jungle of Mexico. Then what's with the ring her great grandmother insist she has.Saying it will give her strength when she needs it. She tried to give it to Alicia to wear as something old for her wedding. Instead she insisted that Dani wear it, now she still couldn't get it off. Yet, returning to her car after her talk with Patrick, noticed the ring, it is gone. Retracing her steps, as thunder and rain begin. She find a man attacking Patrick, in the garden. Lightning strike, she notices the knife, going toward Patrick. What's going on, why is their unanswered questions, and no one will answer Another great mystery and romance. As Dani and Patrick work together to find the missing pieces of puzzle. Received ARC for my honest opinion of which I have given.

What a wonderful ending to a great series. This book has it all-mystery, intrigue, romance, passion, just the right amount of heat, family ties, Texas, Washington DC, good politicians, bad politicians and so much more. Although there was so much packed into the book, I never felt like it was rushed or unbelievable. Patrick and Dani were such a charming couple. Although Dani tried to resist Patrick's charm, it just wasn't possible. Together they made such a fabulous team. Although I wanted the mystery to be solved, I wanted Patrick and Dani's story to continue. It was that good! I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I would have read it anyways!
