About this ebook

In high school, it’s tough enough reading Steinbeck and Shakespeare but now Kylie has to read minds.

High school junior, Kylie Bates, can suddenly read minds. When she touches people’s hands, she’s able to see their deepest thoughts. As if that’s not freaky enough, her dad sends her to help hottie detective, Sam Williams, track down a missing girl. Way too much pressure, especially for a girl who can’t watch Scream without getting nightmares.

Then, finding the missing girl leads to much more than Kylie’s prepared for. Like discovering that her dad has been lying to her. That she has a family she never knew about. That the girls have powers similar to hers. Oh yeah, and that someone is out to get her.

When the detective’s teenage wanna-be-cop cousin, Trip Williams, approaches Kylie at school insisting she help him solve the case, she discovers Trip might be the only one she can trust, and the only one to help her unravel the secrets behind her mysterious gift.

The doorbell rang as Kylie Bates, a high school teenager, is writing in her journal. She yells for her dad to get the door, but he had written a note saying he got paged by a patient and left. The salesman asks for her mother by name – her mom had died when she was 4. She tells him she isn’t here right now and she needs to get to school. But when he reaches out to shake her hand, all kinds of images pop into her head and she can seem to read his mind! When she tells her dad, he wants her to go to a police detective, Sam Williams, who needs help finding a missing girl! Kylie finds out that her Dad has been lying to her for her whole life. It was upsetting that the missing girl looks just like her. And she may have relatives with “special abilities” as well! Who is Kylie if not the person she thought she always was? And how can she find the answers? Who is out to get her and why? And when the detective’s teenage cousin, Trip Williams, asks Kylie at school for her help solving the case, can she trust him? I really enjoy this author’s books, but this one does leave questions behind for the reader to ponder. It looks like Book 2 didn’t get written as anticipated, which may be why. But this book nevertheless was good, the story line clever, the action plentiful, and the intrigue kept the read interested. Grab your copy and see if the case is ever solved and if Kylie finds answers to her own mysteries!

I enjoyed this although I think there may be more to this. It was sort of left in a cliffhanger and I hope there is more coming to see what else happens. There are twists and turns everywhere all while Kylie discovers feelings for someone and lies her father has had. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
