About this ebook

When Wendy Everly was six years old, her mother was convinced she was a monster and tried to kill her. It isn't until eleven years later that Wendy discovers her mother might have been right.

With the help of Finn Holmes, Wendy finds herself in a world she never knew existed - a world both beautiful and frightening - and Wendy's not sure she wants to be a part of it.

This is the first in Amanda Hocking's stunning series, the Trylle Trilogy.

I really wanted to like this book. The whole 'Trolls' thing is a unique concept, i never would've thought anyone would be able to romanticise trolls, but Amanda Hocking has done a pretty good job with it. So props to her for that. But apart from this, the book really wasn't that impressive. It certainly has an undercurrent of Twilight, and if I can speak for anyone, the whole Twilight idea is getting very boring. Really, the guy that stares continually at her, turns up at her window, he can't be with her because they are too different. It may just be me being picky, but this story didn't really work for me, and that's saying something, cause I usually love this sort of story. I'd also like to point out that the book isn't written all that spectacularly either. It is very fast paced, she doesn't spend enough time on descriptions to help you get a sense of the surroundings. Some of the words don't seem to fit with what is trying to be conveyed either, and is it just me, or does it bother everyone else when a word is repeated too many times in the one place? Take for example, over four paragraphs (and short ones at that), Hocking manages to use the word 'Bluff' no less than 5 times, so whenever i saw the word after this i cringed inside. All in all, the book had potential, but i don't think it was written very well, it is certainly not worth the amount of praise it has been given. 2 stars.

Amanda Hocking is a talented writer, mostly writing books for teens. As an adult I find her books enjoyable. This is an easy read and has a teen as the main character. There was plenty of action and I found myself wanting to read the book in one sitting. I look forward to reading the rest of the trilogy.
