Cleo Can Tie A Bow. If you know me, you know that I don't have "big" opinions on picture books. After all, they're picture books. As long as they have easy-to-understand vocabulary and nice pictures that aren't too busy, I enjoy them just fine. Cleo Can Tie A Bow though... Well, I'm not so sure š¤·āāļø This book has a questionable technique for teaching children how to tie a bow. Back in my days, those books had pictures of shoes. That was it. Now tell me, since when did we start using other examples? I don't mind it particularly, I'm curious as to why the author did this. I think children can learn fine with pictures of shoes, I don't understand why we had to go with the rabbit/fox example. We got the author adding a note at the end saying "not to do this to real-life rabbits". I feel like if you don't want kids to misinterpret your book, you should have never used this example, to begin with. It's normalizing animal abuse and we already know that children, they're still growing. They can't see the wrongs and the rights. They're not mature enough. I know people will come at me and say that fiction doesn't equal reality. It affects it though. People will gain opinions from what they see in the media. This is not okay. Look, you can do all you want, you can write a book about tying an animal's ears, please don't say "don't do this in real-life" afterward. Cause that's when people get hypercritical and annoyed. 3 stars. It's a good book for teaching kids how to tie a bow. It's also not a good book because the example is harmful and it doesn't make sense.
