About this ebook

After Hijikata grows suspicious of Soji's feelings about Sei, he reassigns Sei to the third troop under Saito's command. Soji, puzzled by his own recent irrational behavior toward Sei, attempts to distance himself from her. Sei, in turn, interprets this as Soji's realization of her feelings for him and decides that she can no longer serve as a bushi alongside him. She goes to visit Suigetsuni, a nun who knew Sei in her former life as a girl, to discuss renouncing the world and entering the convent! -- VIZ Media

Ms. Watanabe creates her story with amazing detail. From the smallest household objects to demonstrating an understated yet thoroughly realistic rendering of the unique personalities of each of her main figures. She portrays them in true historical detail. For example, in this day and age it would be in bad taste to portray characters openly disgusted by and deeply opposed to homosexuality. She does. Not in a viciously prejudiced way but because it is historically known to be a part of the character of the man in question. Where this series could have strayed into the territory of being an unbearable soap opera it remains so grounded and realistic in how opinions are developed and affect the characters that it becomes a story so compelling you pine having to wait a whole year for another volume. A beautiful story. If historical romance is your kind of story, Kaze Hikaru does not disappoint. You will be reading for years to come.
