Vanessa Michael Munroe is an assassin who has nightmares about her past. She knows her capabilities and when her best friend asks for her help, she can't refuse.
Her friend, Logan, explains that eight years ago, his friend, Charity's daughter, Hannah, was abducted from her school and taken across the Mexican border to a cult known as The Chosen. Hannah was age five at the time and other members of the group who have escaped ask Munroe if she'll rescue her.
These people had been childhood members of The Chosen and tell Munroe some of the things that go on there, then inform her that they know where Hannah is located.
Munore poses as a donor and gains entery into one of the group homes. As she sees the children, she understands how difficult it will be to rescue Hannah if she has been brainwashed and is unwilling to leave.
We understand tht the children have been instructed by The Cult that outsiders will lie and the outside world is corrupt. Unfortunately, in this day when young people are being abused by people in authority, we see how naive children can be.
The book is disquieting at times when we see the vulnerability of children but it is still a wonderfully evocative novel that will remain in the reader's mind with the thoughts of the missing and lost children.

I read the informationonist and fell in love . I couldn't put it down. So of course I had to read the innocent! Unfortunately, I did not find it as well written as the first. It moved a little slower, characters not quite true to form. Still a good book. And plan on reading the next
