About this ebook

The first installment in a thrilling series in which a global catastrophe puts a family’s survival at risk—and both reveals the darkness in human hearts and lights the way to restoration.

Birmingham, Alabama, has lost all power. Its streets are jammed with cars that won’t start and its airport is engulfed in flames from burning planes. All communications—cell phones, computers, even radios—are silent. Every home and business is dark. Is it a natural disaster, a terrorist attack, or something far worse?

In the face of a crisis that sweeps an entire high-tech planet back to a time before electricity, the Branning family faces a choice. Will they hoard their possessions in order to survive—or trust God to provide as they share their resources with those around them? Yesterday’s world is gone. Family and community are all that remain. And the outage is revealing the worst in some.

Desperation can be dangerous—especially when a killer lives among them.

Overall an enjoyable experience, but as an "end of the normal world" book goes this is extremely tame. As much as the author wants you to think god will provide, the chances of that happening are very small. most predictions have a complete collapse of electronics killing off about 70% to 90% of the population. Everything just sort of works out, people eat god knows what food and people live. Its a fairly enjoyable read but suspend your disbelief for a little while.

I started this book April 2nd, 2020 when the Coronavirus/ COVID-19 was going on around the world. Very scary since these two stories kind of mimic each other. Brought new insight to me since I do work at a hospital front line.

A wonderful story to read, as in our real life all of us are dealing with the Covid 19 virus. Only the event is different from what we are going through now. I could not put this awesome story down. I could relate to all of the family and their reaction to this devastating incident and how to get through it. How God used each of theirs fears for good, gives me hope with mine.
