Expert fiddlers Brian Wicklund and April Verch team up to delve into the dynamic world of Canadian fiddling for the FiddlePal Explore Series. April is among the busiest fiddlers in Canada. Her inspired fans have long clamored for her instruction.

This highly anticipated beginning to intermediate-level book explores Canada's rich fiddle traditions including Old Time Canadian, French Canadian, Cape Breton and Metis. More than just a collection of great tunes, this book demystifies common ornaments and bowing patterns used in Canadian fiddling. The authors teach the simple melody to reels, jigs, hornpipes, waltzes, schottisches, airs and strathspeys and demonstrate how to create variations using the skills in the book. The play-along audio accompanying the book is great listening. An outstanding book. Includes access to online audio.

Autoren-Profil

Brian Wicklund was seven years old when his mother thought he should take Suzuki violin lessons. He was surprised to find out that he liked it. When he heard bluegrass music for the first time as a third grader, however, he really flipped out. Brian practiced hard and got to be pretty good. As a pimply teen, some of the prize money from the fiddle contests he won went towards purchasing his first mandolin. He liked that it was like a violin but could be played in the backseat of a car or lying in a bed. After graduating from Gustavus Adolphus College with a degree in elementary education, he promptly started playing and teaching fiddle and mandolin full time. Brian currently keeps a busy schedule teaching fiddle and mandolin lessons, workshops and camps including his Fiddle Pal Camps across the US, Canada, Sweden and UK. He is a sought-after studio musician and regularly performs with his band The Barley Jacks and with good buddy and co-author Ben Winship in Brother Mule. He has toured Japan, Canada, UK, and Europe and nearly every state in the US.
