About this eBook

"Cole weaves a fantasy world that feels comfortably familiar, then goes to places you’d never expect. You won’t stop turning pages until the stunning finish." —Peter V. Brett

Myke Cole, star of CBS's Hunted and author of the Shadow Ops series, debuts the Sacred Throne epic fantasy trilogy with The Armored Saint, a story of religious tyrants, arcane war-machines, and underground resistance that will enthrall epic fantasy readers of all ages.

In a world where any act of magic could open a portal to hell, the Order insures that no wizard will live to summon devils, and will kill as many innocent people as they must to prevent that greater horror. After witnessing a horrendous slaughter, the village girl Heloise opposes the Order, and risks bringing their wrath down on herself, her family, and her village.

Heroine is dumb. 100% emotion, no thought. The society is so backwards and superstitious they'll participate in mass killings on command yet there's steam punk tech with a power source 100x more potent than gasoline. How this type of society could exist in dreams is a huge ask let alone seem believable to the reader. Then the ending happens... hero worship to the nth degree. It's ridiculous and unbelievable on it's face and the notion that she'll "fight again" in a day or 3 absent a miracle is a joke. Complete waste of $10. If it were a paperback it would be in the recycle bin to spare anyone the pain of reading it.

I'm a slow reader; I usually read a handful of pages in bed before I go to sleep. This book, though, I could not put down. It's gripping, fast-paced and populated with amazing characters in a world that is both very original and strangely familiar. Myke Cole immediately became one of my favourite authors with The Armored Saint.

This book is very good. Its a dark and intimate coming of age tale set in a world in the midst of an inquisition style cultural struggle. The scope of the narative may be intimate but the world feels complex and nuanced. I cant wait to hear more from this story and i wont have to wait long because its sequal is slated for release in october. Only serious complaint is that for a genre novel it is very short. I am used to doorstoppers so reaching the end so quickly felt kinda wrong. All the same I recommend this book.

About the author

After a career in the military, police and intelligence services, MYKE COLE tracks fugitives as part of the investigative team on CBS' new hit show "Hunted." Myke's three tours in Iraq inspired his military fantasy Shadow Ops series (Control Point, Fortress Frontier, Breach Zone). But the work hasn't separated Myke from his nerd roots. He's still a voracious fantasy reader who never misses his weekly game night. Myke's fandoms range from Star Wars to military history. He's a former Kendo champion and heavy weapons fighter in the Society for Creative Anachronism. At the D&D table, he always plays Paladins. Myke lives in Brooklyn, NY.
