 Lacey Garner is a young reporter with a troubled past. She grew up in a cheap motel with a mother who was a prostitute. Lacey struggles with the memory of the things she and her mother were forced to do to survive. She has now vowed to rise above her past and make something better of her life. And sometimes she even feels like she's succeeded. She is working for one of the most important news magazines in New York. Her editor and mentor has taken her under her wing and trained her in all the skills she needs to succeed. A passionate and driven journalist, Lacey loves her job and is determined to make a difference. 
And then she is asked to take on a special assignment. As she listens to what the assignment entails, she realizes that it is going to challenge every feeling of guilt and shame that haunts her from her past. 
The editors of her magazine ask her to go undercover as a call girl and expose one of the most secretive clubs in the city. They want Lacey to do whatever is necessary to find out who is in the club, and what sordid entertainments they indulge in. 
The Assignment is going to be the challenge of Lacey's young life. Having escaped the world of cheap prostitutes of her childhood, she now has to enter the world of thousand-dollar-an-hour call girls and expose the degrees to which New York's rich and powerful men are degrading and humiliating women for their own pleasure and amusement.
