A product of trans-Atlantic revivalism and awakening, Methodism initially took root in America in the eighteenth century. Jason E. Vickers is Associate Professor of Theology and Wesleyan Studies at the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. He is the author of Minding the Good Ground: A Theology for Church Renewal (2011), Wesley: A Guide for the Perplexed (2009), Invocation and Assent: The Making and Remaking of Trinitarian Theology (2008) and co-editor (with Randy L. Maddox) of The Cambridge Companion to John Wesley (2009). He is also President-elect of the Wesleyan Theological Society.
