Terry spends hundreds of pages narrating in circles and making the characters repeat themselves. It's almost as though he believes that the reader has the attention span of a 4 year old and must reaffirm every action, setting, and line of dialog over and over and over again. This leads to a disjointed narrative when the characters interact and speak as the reader is forced to imagine the characters repeating themselves over and over or exclaiming some obvious line of dialog that really didn't need to be said or had been said 5 times in the last 4 paragraphs with no in between. The overarching story felt like a cobbled together mish-mash of leftover characters and random ideas that didn't make it into The Sword of Truth. The final revelations about the main antagonistic force and the eventual climax were extremely underwhelming and felt like a poor attempt at a cliffhanger. Overall, I would say this is a rare miss from one of my favorite authors and series.
