Just when you think you have the world figured out, "The Day of the Pelican" skillfully points a mirror at us Americans. This is a wonderful YAL book that resonated with me as an adult. Young adults may require some back ground knowledge on the climate in the former Yugoslavia between 1998-1999 to gain a true appreciation of this book's message.

This book is the best book I've ever read! I had to read it for a school project but ended up wanting to read more. So sad I finished the book, really recommend this book to anyone!!!!

Great history, good emotion. Expressed a lot of sadness and happiness.

Katherine Paterson’s international fame rests not only on her widely acclaimed novels but also on her efforts to promote literacy in the United States and abroad.
