Salem Easter Eggs
22 December 2016
(apologies that this is repetitive, I figure people will perhaps only come across one work of Perley's. also that apparently line breaks are not a thing, even w HTML.) I live in Salem, Mass, Essex County Seat. When I talk to other History enthusiasts, I learned that Perley was the definitive historian of his day. I've checked out his History of Salem from the Public Library and been breathtaken....and even learned who owned the property my home and that of my friends was from the beginning. I'm getting my hands on everything that I can. It is pretty amazing, the first leaders of the Mass Bay Colony, the Colonial tastemakers, and antecedants of some of the biggest companies, foundations, and much more to this day. Names on machines I used in my scientific career, of brands I have used my whole life that I never thought of, of streets in every town I have ever lived in....all from here. I'm working my way through those shelves of the library and those of the Essex Institute and surrounding municipalities. It is amazing stuff. Enjoy!
