The Gilded Years is an historical read that was something completely out of my realm of a book I would choose but a story that I felt was also different. I do like to sometimes read books out of my comfort zone and this one was right up there. The Gilded Years centres on Anita Hemmings and her experience as a college student at Vassar. Her account as the only African-American woman to attend the college is frought with certain challenges, drama, friction and secrets. A book I found a bit difficult to get into as historical is not usually my cup of tea but might be definitely up your alley. I had to put it down a few times as it just wasn’t holding my attention to be quite honest. In saying that, this book is good for those readers who enjoy historical novels.
