About this eBook

Kate Brady, the daughter of a runaway father and alcoholic mother, is swept of her feet by Jewish bootlegger Ben Gold. Ben had told Kate he was in the insurance business, but she soon found she was living in a house of lies. In desperation she turns to Ben’s handsome accountant Bobby Keane and begins a steamy and dangerous love affair with him. Set against the drama of Prohibition, the Roaring Twenties, and the Great Depression, Kate’s life and death struggle to escape from Ben and his hit man Sam Ginzberg races toward a stunning conclusion.

About the author

Born in Cleveland Ohio, 91 year old Babette Hughes grew up in the time of Prohibition and bootleggers. Her father was one of the first bootleggers in the country, and was murdered by the mafia in a turf war at the age of 29.

Writing has allowed her to draw from those unusual life experiences to create her characters and tell their stories (and sometimes cautionary tales) in vivid detail. Gangsters and guns, women and wine, sin and society all melded together in riveting detail for readers from all walks of life who somehow relate to the characters she creates.
