William Hope Hodgson (1877-1918)
William Hope Hodgson was an English author who produced a large body of work spanning the horror, fantasy and science fiction genres. He ran away as a youth and worked at sea aboard ships. This influenced much of his later writing. His first published story was The Goddess of Death. He is also known for his Sargasso Sea Stories and novels such as The House on the Borderland and The Night Land. He died in World War I, aged 40.
