The characters make a profound impact. The way the story picks up pace is awesome. The most amazing thing is the extremely accurate technical detail in which the story is told, like some of the war strategies, briefly explaining the working of nuclear reactors in submarines etc. A very good read.

As a very hardcore Tom Clancy reader, this is the best way to start the Jack Ryan series. His technical detail is out of this world, as usual. My favorite novel by Tom Clancy will always be Red Storm rising. This is my second favorite Tom Clancy novel.

I read this book for the first time many years ago, when I bought a paperback copy. That has long disappeared, so I'm downloading the ebook version of one of my favourite thrillers. Sad that Tom Clancy left us, he was the best and will be missed.
