Modern theorists and their ideas on war and peace are here presented, interpreted, and evaluated with scholarship and clarity of expression. In examining the main currents in modern social theory, the author has gone directly to the works of the leading philosophic figures. Irving Louis Horowitz (1929-2012) was Hannah Arendt distinguished university professor emeritus of sociology and political science at Rutgers University. He served as chairman of the board and editorial director of Transaction Publishers at the University. A prolific writer, he authored nearly 50 books, many of which appeared in translation and multiple editions, as well as hundreds of articles and essays. Subjects ranged from political theory to academic affairs and public policy, to publishing. He was widely regarded as the authoritative voice on Cuban Communism. Dr. Horowitz received many awards for his contributions to public life.
