Magic is everywhere is this book, especially in the hearts of the people who choose to entwine their fates together. It's much must when we choose our families in the non-Oz world. It's definitely not just a kids book.

Patronizing attitude towards women seems directed towards the suffragette movement which I think was contemporaneous. Not suitable for young children without explanation.

I read this as a child and loved it. I just read it again now, 30 years later, and found it full of clever humor for adults. It's not all that long either. This makes it an excellent book parents to read to their children, too.
