I found the book absorbing and entertaining, and a decent ending to the first book. The end felt a tad contrived and at some point Mr Brooks really needs to get over his precociously gifted youngster phase as two of the older characters particularly were superb, but overall a recommended read.

the sample was enough to make up my mind to purchase this book. I have read many of his books and this one is just as excellent as all his others

About the author

Terry Brooks was a practising attorney for many years, but now writes full time. His first novel, THE SWORD OF SHANNARA, remained on the NEW YORK TIMES bestseller list for five months, and he is widely regarded to have started the post-Tolkien boom in epic fantasy.
